Hunting exam in Finland:free practice with English explanations

The hunting exam in Finland (metsästäjätutkinto) must be passed before you pay the game management fee (riistanhoitomaksu) for the first time. Paying that fee gives you a hunting card, which you need to hunt in Finland. The exam is organised by local game management associations (riistanhoitoyhdistys), and the questions are prepared by the Finnish Wildlife Agency (Suomen riistakeskus).

Prøveklar lets you practise with questions in Finnish, with an English translation of every question and answer and an explanation in English after each answer. Start with a free test of 10 questions, no account needed. Prøveklar is an independent practice service and is not part of the Finnish Wildlife Agency.

Can you hunt in Finland without the exam?

Under the Act on the game management fee (616/1993), section 2, you must pass the exam before paying the game management fee. It does not apply to:

  • people who paid the fee in any of the five preceding hunting years,
  • Finnish citizens entitled to hunt under the Åland provisions,
  • foreigners who are entitled to hunt in their home country.

If you do not pay the game management fee for five years in a row, the exam expires and you must take it again.
